Evan William Plunkett
Evan William Plunkett’s photography is a compelling exploration of time, memory, and atmosphere, shaped by his deep-rooted connection to visual storytelling. Influenced by the principles of color, composition, and documentation, his work bridges the gap between realism and impressionism, capturing fleeting moments with a dreamlike quality. Plunkett’s imagery often portrays haunting, cinematic scenes—a neon sign glowing in the distance, empty highways stretching into darkness, ghostly figures lingering on sidewalks, and abandoned cars reclaimed by nature. These elements evoke a sense of nostalgia and mystery, inviting viewers to imagine the lives and stories behind each setting. Employing long-exposure techniques and intentional camera movement, Plunkett creates a signature style he describes as “photo impressionism.” This approach blurs the boundaries between stillness and motion, lending his compositions an ethereal, almost painterly effect. Whether drawing inspiration from urban landscapes or remote, forgotten places, his work captures the transient nature of existence, offering a poetic reflection on time and human presence.
Currently residing in Putney, Vermont, Plunkett grew up in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Texas, and completed his studies in Political Science at the University of Miami. His work has appeared in numerous juried exhibitions and publications around the world and was featured on the cover of SHOTS magazine. Plunkett has published three monographs: Statements in Passing (2017), Landscapes (2019), and First Impressions, published in November 2023.
A social justice and environmental advocate, he sits on the board of directors of the Doris Wilderness Foundation, Inc., an NGO dedicated to the protection of neotropical rainforest.
